Creative Cake Camp!

I am pretty embarrassed that I have fallen so far behind. I'm not really sure what's happened but I think it's time to share how much fun we had this summer!

We started out with Creative Cakes...we had fun with nature...
Learned how to pull it altogether with cakes pops!
Things got a little fishy!
Had fun getting down with Angry Birds!
And brought home cakes to share that were Angry Birds themed! We packed so much into the week and loved every minute of it!

Enjoy!

Sew What?! Creative Camps 2012

We started our week by talking about some sewing basics...among them the expression "Measure Twice, Cut Once". Everyone enjoyed this layout and was excited to move onto their first projects of the week!
We started off our week by working on aprons and water bottle holders. We made some appliques, did some hand stitching and had fun!
Next up? Dresses! We used already made shirts, cut them and added fabric to suit the tastes of the stylists to create custom dresses for everyone!
This project was very popular with these future artists! We made art totes and decorated them with images and personalized them all with the girls' names!
The big winner of the week? Our monster pillows! They were SO fun to watch the girls put together!

Boy did I ever have a great week!

Enjoy!

Wanna Pizza Me?!

The last PA Day of the year...I have been holding onto this theme for a while now...and we had SO much fun with it! I love finishing a day with a scrapbook page to remember it by!
The kids each made their own batch of dough from scratch...
And we made Pizza Cupcakes too! We bordered the cupcakes with icing, filled the centre with jam and topped it with grated white chocolate and sliced nibs!
We also decorated aprons!
And boy, were the kids ever excited to dig in! (Everyone took their pizza home...this is one of the ones that was created by my kids!)
Nothing like having Pizza and Dessert delivered by your own children!
Enjoy!

Creative Cake Camp 2012!

Wow! What a week we had! We started off with t-shirts (the children chose between "This is how I Roll" and "Keep Calm and Bake On"), Fish Cupcakes and Fish Scrapbook Pages! We also played games throughout the days so the kids could enjoy some time outside and have fun getting to know each other.

On Day 2 we got right into baking so that we could make our "Nature" Cupcakes and Scrapbook Page. I showed the children how to do a Bumblebee, Lady Bug and an Owl and they created the other 3 on their own. It was fantastic watching them get to work!

Day 3 there was more baking to be done! We worked on Lollipop cakes, enjoyed Popsicles we made the day before and started Cake Pops!
On Day 4 we got those Cake Pops working for us! Thank goodness for that! They were delicious!
We also started some figure modelling for our final cake on Day 4 This was a highlight...the children enjoyed it so much we spent a little extra time working on it!
Finally! Day 5 we iced and covered our cakes then began to decorate them with the pieces the children had made. Again, I worked with them on the red bird and one pig and they went on from there.
The highlights of the week were games with Michelle (Mother May I? was a big favourite!), Figure Modelling and Baking!

We are looking forward to Sew What?! running the week of July 16th! Then we move onto Creative Cooks, Sew Much More and our last camp is Rainbow Connection! It's going to be a jam packed summer full of Creative Adventures!

Enjoy!

The fruit of summer!

A while back one of the regular participants at Community Living asked if we could make Rice Krispie Squares...well, I never take the easy way (well, rarely at least!) So we used Jello to dye the Rice Krispies and packed them in the outside of our pan...
Then we filled the centre in with red rice krispies (dyed with red jello) and added some chocolate chips...and that's how we made watermelon!
But that didn't fill our full time so we did some scrapbooking...
See how great they look together?
And we finished the day with some nice cold watermelon!
This was back in June but it is a lot of fun...you should definitely try it!

Enjoy!

Do you want fries with that?

Sometimes we get lucky...and today was one of those days for sure! I pulled together a fun workshop for Community Living with a Hamburger Theme that could easily be a Father's Day gift or just something fun to share with a friend.

First we got a cake, cupcakes and brownies in the oven...then while we waited we made Burger Cards (I got the idea for the cards here).
Next up? The cake was ready so we started making some fries!
And we cut our burgers, sliced our buns and set to work putting the condiments on!
See that? I even found some food baskets to put it all in!
We wrapped them all up, tied the card on and voila!
 Another great workshop!
I just love this card idea!
I hated choosing just one photo! Everyone enjoyed this workshop! It's fun making food into something new! Next I'll show you how we made our own watermelon! Another fun interpretation!

Enjoy!

Road Trips, Ice Cream...life IS a zoo!

When I put together my proposal for Scrapbook Club I never imagined I would get the response I did. I sent my proposal to 3 schools. There wasn't a moment's hesitation for 2 of those schools. We set it up and started registration...8 weeks to create a fun, memorable book to share summer moments in...
We have used colour, stamps, die cuts, loads of glue...
Shaving cream...
Heat embossing (this is a favourite!)
We have worked in groups, I have seen some of the older participants helping younger ones, friendships have been created and solidified...I have gotten to know 38 children better over the last 6 weeks and have enjoyed every moment of it.

I can't wait to share what they have created with you...but unless you are their parent, one of their teachers or someone who touches their lives you can't really see what they have created. They stand a little taller, smile a little broader and have learned so much.

Enjoy (I know I will!)

Leave 'em wanting...S'more!

I surprised my group at Community Living with Homemade Marshmallows this week! I made them in advance and then we decorated and packaged them up together! Who doesn't love S'mores?

We dipped our marshmallows in melting chocolate and covered them with graham crackers, sprinkles and lots of Springtime colours!
Since I had S'mores on the brain...we did a coordinating scrapbook page. Scrapbooking seems to be a favourite among the group so we squeeze in extra days whenever we can!
Everyone coloured their fires and signs, embossed those 'mallows and put it all together!
My weekly visits to Community Living are always lively and fun! Everyone there is welcoming and excited to see what I bring in my basket week after week!

Enjoy!

Creative Scrap Booking! March Break Camps

I had such a great time at my March Break Camps but I was really looking forward to scrapbooking...
It was going to be my quiet day! But we had a few last minute registrations and things got busy fast!
AND, I got out the shaving cream...
AND it got kind of messy (imagine that!)
But look at the amazing backgrounds we made with it!
And even better...the friends that were made throughout the week!
My photo of the week...after it was all said and done, it was my little guy who came to help me clean up my workshop.
Each of the children took home a mini album or 5 completed 12x12 pages ready to add photos to. We also took some time outside to stretch our legs and have our lunch!

Enjoy!

Community Living Fun!

I've Got Sunshine...
On a Cloudy Day!
It doesn't matter how prepared I am or what we are doing. It doesn't matter if I forget supplies or I am short one or two things...the group that I spend my Tuesday Mornings with at Community Living are quite honestly sunshine for me. We laugh, we smile, we joke, we hug, we bump and we work together. I am talking about everyone here...the staff, the participants...we all have fun together. They are my sunshine on Tuesdays.
I often don't get to post every week...so here are the results of another week...Mickey Cupcakes!
And some Beach Cupcakes!
One of the girls loves pink...I now go out of my way to make sure she gets pink when it's offered as a choice. Cause that's how I roll.
Enjoy the sunshine!
